The Shiba Inu team recently gave a warning about a hack of one of its official Telegram administrator accounts being used to promote a fraudulent airdrop. Shiba Inu marketing lead Lucie shared a post alerting the community after the account of Telegram admin Ragnar was compromised.

The hijacked account allegedly began announcing a fake “limited” airdrop of Bone tokens from the Shiba Inu team treasury wallet. However, project leaders urgently informed followers that any communications from the hacked admin account should be avoided. They say that they could lead to the theft of cryptocurrency assets.

Prominent community account @vetkusama is also warning users on the social media platform X. The account is telling Shiba Inu holders not to click any links from the hacked Ragnar account. The incident heightened calls for Shiba Inu to establish a cybersecurity team to safeguard its official channels.

Bone is the governance and gas token for ShibaSwap and Layer 2 blockchain, Shibarium. The scammers likely chose it for the airdrop scam due to familiarity among the community.

Fake token giveaways and phishing attempts have long plagued the cryptocurrency space. They are common tactics to steal funds from unwitting victims. But users need to exercise extreme caution about offers that sound too good to be true.

The SHIB team’s quick public disclosure of the account breach demonstrated responsible communication to contain risks to the community. Still, the incident exemplified the need for heightened vigilance in protecting official channels.
