NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang emphasizes India’s potential in AI, urging the country to build its own AI infrastructure to leverage its data and talent.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has called for India to develop its own artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, highlighting the nation’s potential to become a leader in AI innovation. Speaking at NVIDIA’s AI Summit in Mumbai, Huang emphasized that AI could be the driving force behind India’s digital transformation, according to the NVIDIA Blog.

India’s Unique Position in AI

Huang addressed a diverse audience of entrepreneurs, developers, academics, and business leaders, stating that India’s vast IT and computer science expertise is an “amazing natural resource.” He noted that the country’s cloud infrastructure providers are rapidly expanding data center capacity to capitalize on this talent and leverage India’s immense data resources. NVIDIA is playing a crucial role in this expansion, with GPU deployments expected to grow nearly tenfold by the end of the year.

The CEO likened the current shift in computing to the transformative changes introduced by IBM’s System 360 in 1964, predicting that the computing industry will evolve into the intelligence industry. He highlighted India’s strengths, including its large population and data resources, as key factors that position the nation to lead this transformation.

AI Infrastructure and Sovereignty

Huang stressed the importance of India manufacturing its own AI, arguing against exporting data to import intelligence. He identified three transformative areas of AI: sovereign AI, agentic AI, and physical AI, and asserted that India is uniquely positioned to excel in all these domains.

India’s startups are already utilizing NVIDIA technology to innovate across industries and establish themselves as global players. Meanwhile, the country’s robotics ecosystem is adopting NVIDIA’s Isaac and Omniverse platforms to advance physical AI, transforming sectors like manufacturing and logistics.

Partnerships and Workforce Development

In a discussion with Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Huang explored how AI will shape the future of Indian industries, particularly in energy, telecommunications, and manufacturing. Ambani emphasized AI’s centrality to growth, with Reliance collaborating with NVIDIA to build AI factories aimed at automating industrial tasks.

NVIDIA is committed to preparing India’s workforce for an AI-driven future. The company is partnering with major Indian IT firms such as Infosys, TCS, Tech Mahindra, and Wipro to upskill nearly half a million developers, ensuring that India leads the AI revolution with a highly trained workforce.

A Shared Vision for AI-Driven Growth

Concluding the session, Huang and Ambani reflected on their vision for India’s AI-driven future. They agreed that with its vast talent pool, burgeoning tech ecosystem, and immense data resources, India has the potential to contribute significantly to global sectors such as energy, healthcare, finance, and manufacturing.

Both leaders stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to harness the potential of AI for a more equal and prosperous world. Huang concluded by urging a collective commitment to ensure that India can fully benefit from the intelligence revolution.
