A Bloomberg ETF analyst has shared his predicted timeline for the approval of new crypto ETFs for Ripple XRP; Litecoin LTC, and Solana SOL. 2025 is expected to be bigger for crypto than 2024, which saw the arrival of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas agrees with this sentiment, publishing his latest newsletter with dates he anticipates will bring the launch of new altcoin ETFs.

On Tuesday, Balchunas stated that we can expect “a wave” of new cryptocurrency ETFs in 2025. First out is likely the BTC and ETH combo ETFs, then prob Litecoin (because its fork of BTC = commodity), then HBAR (because it’s not labeled security), and then XRP/Solana (which have been labeled securities in pending lawsuits),” he added.

Better Chances for Crypto ETF Approvals in 2025?

With a newly structured SEC come 2025, experts expect looser regulation on the crypto industry. Donald Trump’s crypto-friendly administration is also set to play a part, opening the door for more crypto expansion in 2025. According to Balchunas, XRP and Solana are favorites, but due to ongoing securities issued their ETFs may be delayed. That delay does open the door for Litecoin, which has bullish momentum behind it.

Litecoin and Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) may face fewer hurdles, according to the Bloomberg ETF analyst. He noted that Litecoin, a Bitcoin fork, is more likely viewed by regulators as a commodity, not a security. Additionally, HBAR has not been labeled a security by the SEC, which improves its odds of approval. Balchunas pointed out that “new issuer Canary is the only filer for a Litecoin or HBAR ETF,” though he acknowledged the uncertainty around investor demand for these funds.

Furthermore, Balchunas even hinted at the potential of a Dogecoin (DOGE) ETF filing soon. “12/31 feels like a good over/under date for Doge filing,” he suggests, adding that even a Dogecoin ETF could come. The exact dates of potential crypto ETF filings will likely become clearer as January comes and goes.
