Energy Web is moving towards the Polkadot ecosystem to expand the range of its decarbonization products targeted at established players in the energy industry. Previously, the nonprofit organization had been utilizing its technology infrastructure on a private blockchain built on Ethereum and the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

Polkadot stands at the forefront of driving a better web from the partnership. By venturing into the Polkadot network, Energy Web aims to establish the framework for its groundbreaking technology called Energy Web X. This development holds significant potential for Energy Web’s partners, including Shell, Vodafone, Volkswagen, and RMI, as they can further advance their decarbonization strategies with this new opportunity.

The current shift to Polkadot, for which Energy Web has applied to become a parachain, aims to incorporate adaptability and enable the creation of a “Web3 as a service” framework, as explained by Jessie Morris, the CEO of Energy Web. One significant advantage of Energy Web’s shift towards Polkadot (DOT), as highlighted by Morris, is the opportunity to participate in the protocol’s “shared security model.”

Morris further emphasizes that incorporating Web3 technology into their infrastructure improves cybersecurity by leveraging decentralization. The primary objective of Energy Web is to expedite the utilization of various approaches to mitigate or eliminate polluting products, particularly among the world’s largest fossil fuel producers.

The integration of Energy Web aims to enhance the range of available tools, thus empowering their efforts to encourage adopting sustainable practices. Moreover, by injecting Web3 tech into its stack, Energy Web can significantly bolster its cybersecurity measures, benefiting from the decentralized nature of the approach.

According to Morris, Energy Web has identified two key areas of emphasis that will continue during the transition to Polkadot. Firstly, they aim to leverage Web3 technology to establish a “network effect” that enables prominent electric utilities to access digital tools. These tools will facilitate the integration of various components, such as electric vehicles, air conditioners, and electric batteries, into a cohesive system.

The second area of focus revolves around enabling partners to track and measure the usage of renewable energy through the joint capabilities of Energy Web and Polkadot. Notably, metrics related to renewable energy usage for publicly traded companies have faced scrutiny during earnings calls.

Moreover, Bitcoin miners are a particular area of interest for Energy Web during this transition.

Enhancing User Experience: Energy Web’s Web2-Like Interface on Polkadot

In recent times, notable figures from diverse fields, including music, gaming, and accounting, have joined the ranks of the Polkadot network. The Energy Web X parachain will be integrated alongside other projects that operate on the Polkadot Relay Chain.

As of March 2021, Polkadot had witnessed the integration of 42 blockchains across various industry sectors. These industries encompass decentralized finance (DeFi), privacy, social media networking, sustainability initiatives, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), gaming, and digital worlds. Now operating as independent platforms, these interconnected chains support many web3 applications.

The collaborative nature between these chains fosters the development of new use cases while benefiting from the enhanced security features of the Polkadot network. Additionally, integrating Energy Web into Polkadot aims to establish a user experience similar to Web2 for companies.

This means that executives will be able to log into an interface provided by Energy Web, where they can easily navigate various grid energy management and tracking options without requiring coding skills. Importantly, familiarity with Polkadot’s technical infrastructure is not necessary to access and utilize these features, as stated by the Energy Web representative.
