FC Barcelona and WoW Collaborate on NFT Project

0

Footballing giant, FC Barcelona, has joined forces with eccentric NFT project, World of Women (WoW), for a highly-anticipated second release of its ‘Masterpieces’ collection. For the sequel, a legendary player from the football behemoth’s women’s team is under the spotlight, advocating for women’s empowerment in sport.

Aptly called ‘Empowerment’, the NFT series designed by Rhi Madeline, pays tribute to the captain of FC Barcelona’s women’s club, Alexia Putellas. The collectibles showcase her success during the Women’s Champions League semi-final match, capturing an iconic moment whereby Putella scored two skilled goals against Wolfsburg in 2022, piloting the team to victory.

For the chance to hold an empowerment NFT, a two-day auction will commence on the OpenSea marketplace from June 26 – 28. When taking the price point of past Masterpieces collectibles to account, this isn’t an opportunity to be missed!

FC Barcelona’s NFT Foray

FC Barcelona kickstarted into the NFT realm with Masterpiece collectibles that highlight the Dutch soccer legend Johan Cruyff. Surpassingly, the asset ‘In A Way, Immortal’ sold at a Sotheby’s auction for the mighty price of $693,000.

Reasons behind the significant price tag include Cruyff being considered one of the most iconic players in football history over his successful stint in the mid-1970s. He then returned to the club as a manager, leading the team to win 11 trophies and four consecutive La Liga titles. Moreover, the assets opened unmissable privileges like exclusive player meet-and-greats and the chance to play at the renowned Spotify Camp Nou stadium.

FC Barcelona’s Web3 initiatives continue beyond. Recently taking strides with Plastik, the football club launched the uplifting NFT collection ‘Unleash Your Passion‘ at the beginning of this month, assisting toward battling the plastic waste crisis and granting holders to own signed football shirts by FC Barcelona’s players.

FC Barcelona’s most recent partnership with World of Women intertwines sports and social responsibility yet again, focusing on issues that sadly remain an issue to this day while opening a piece of football history!
