Franklin Templeton, a $1.5 trillion asset manager, has recently filed for a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The proposed ETF will invest in Bitcoin and track the CME CF Bitcoin Reference Rate, an index that provides a reference rate for the cryptocurrency. If approved by the SEC, the ETF will trade on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) and join a growing list of Bitcoin ETFs in North America. The approval of the ETF could potentially boost investor exposure to Bitcoin in a regulated way.
