From Homelessness to Hope: Oscar® Winning Filmmakers Use NFTs to Raise Funds for Inspiring Documentary Titled ‘Sticks & Shelter’
Stoke-On-Trent, United Kingdom – Oscar® Winning writer and director, Rachel Shenton and Chris Overton, are using a new fundraising method to produce their upcoming documentary, “Sticks and Shelter.” The film follows recovering addict and ex-professional drummer, Micky Donnovan, as he lives at the Macari Centre for the homeless run by Manchester United legend Lou Macari. Amidst the backdrop of an uncertain 21st-century Britain currently facing an unprecedented economic dilemma and an ever-growing homelessness crisis, “Sticks and Shelter” tells the story of hope and friendship.
The team, Slick Films, is looking to raise £50,000 by launching a campaign on Paus, a web3 media company that helps filmmakers finance and distribute films using NFTs. The campaign will include 4 tiers of NFTs, each unlocking exclusive rewards and revenue share for the contributors.
“Stoke-on-Trent usually gets media attention for all the wrong reasons and although Monkey Dust (a terrible synthetic drug) has a tight grip on the city… That bleak depiction doesn’t tell the full story,” says Rachel Shenton. “Although Sticks & Shelter demonstrates that addiction and loneliness don’t discriminate, it’s also a hopeful story of friendship, love, and music.”
Chris Overton adds, “One of the biggest driving forces of Sticks & Shelter is seeing Micky’s lost passion for music and drums reignite in rare moments. My hope is that with the encouragement of Lou Macari and the deadline of a concert, Mickey might have another shot.”
The campaign launches on January 30th and will run for a limited time. Paus is excited to be a part of this unique fundraising campaign and to help bring “Sticks & Shelter” to the world.
