Goblintown Makes Viral Twitch Gaming Appearance

0

Just when you thought it was safe to venture back into the digital world, the infamous Goblintown NFT collection has once again reared its malformed head. This time, infiltrating one of the top performing games on the Twitch video streaming service through a viral appearance on hit indie title, ‘Only Up.’

Earlier in the week, ‘Only Up’ began trending on the Twitch platform, amassing an incredible 109k simultaneous viewers. However, it was the background imagery that really got tongues wagging, with the anarchic Goblintown NFT project making multiple appearances throughout the game.

Released by fledgling gaming developer, SCKRgames, Only Up pits players against the unforgiving force of gravity. Essentially, taking a leave out of the Jack and the Beanstalk school of storytelling as participants embark on an unending journey into the heavens. Throughout their upward trajectory, eagle eyed players and Twitch viewers have noticed more than a few nods to the Goblintown franchise.

The Goblintown Creative Commons License Encourages IP Use

For now, it is unclear whether the Goblintown NFT collection was involved in the development of the game in any way. However, due to its forward-thinking Commercial Commons 0 licence, anyone can use the Goblintown IP regardless of NFT ownership.

What this means, is that anyone can use the Goblintown imagery within their commercial projects without fearing any legal backlash. As a result, this encourages the Goblintown IP to proliferate around the digital sphere and create a perfect storm for its viral campaign.

This notable development comes with more than a soupcon of mockery for the Steam platform on which Only Up is accessible. Back in late 2021, the gaming giant very publicly banned NFT based games from its ecosystem.
