MoMA Unveils Novel NFT Postcards Experiment

Ever since the worldwide media declared the ‘death of NFTs’ they have officially become cool enough for the serious art crowd. The latest proof of this comes as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has unveiled its new ‘Postcards’ NFT project.

In a bid to get artists experimenting with NFT technology, MoMA has found a novel way to spark dialogue and participation. As a result, it has come up with the MoMA Postcards initiative that invites artists to engage in a collaborative digital art project. Effectively, leveraging the lightning fast Tezos blockchain to make the project come to life.

In essence, a lead artist must come up with a theme, and send a digital chain letter NFT to a contemporary. This selected individual must then create a small NFT stamp that reflects the theme previously set out, before passing it on to the next artist. Once all 15 stamps have been filled, MoMA will then display all 15 miniature artworks as a singular NFT postcard.

MoMA Kicks off its Postcards collection in Style

MoMA has announced that it will role out its Postcards initiative far and wide later in October. However, to get the ball rolling, it first enlisted 15 prominent digital artists to create the first set of postcards. This involved each artist setting a theme, then each of their fellow creators taking it in turn to submit their own digital stamp. This esteemed group of early experimenters includes the likes of Dmitri Cherniak, Kim Asendorf, IX Shells, p1xelfool, among others.
