Nike has announced a public presale for its latest collaboration with digital fashion brand RTFKT. In contrast to previous models, their newest sneakers, the RTFKT Dunk Genesis collection, can be acquired without having to own a corresponding RTFKT non-fungible token (NFT).
Two editions of these sneakers are set to hit the market: the Nike x RTFKT Dunk Ghost Edition and Dunk VOID Edition, retailing for $222 apiece. In addition to the sneakers, an associated t-shirt is available, featuring both brand logos and the catchphrase “Oops, You Stepped Into the Future”.
Futuristic Design and Customization
The Dunk Genesis sneakers continue RTFKT’s tradition of futuristic design, boasting features like a detachable “Vial Clip Tongue” and a “Modular Heel Shield” which allows for personalization. Purchasers will obtain 3D files for the sneakers, enabling them to create their own modifications for the shoes
This new generation of sneakers also integrates an NFC chip- the RTFKT World Merging chip. This feature allows owners to link the physical shoes to a digital asset and obtain a related digital collectible.
Both editions of Dunk Genesis collection have a projected ship date; the VOID Edition by July 31, 2024, and the Ghost Edition by August 31, 2024. As for the NFTs generated with these sneakers, the blockchain used for minting remains unspecified. However, both RTFKT and Nike hold a history of using Ethereum and Polygon respectively.
Past Nike and RTFKT Collaborations
Nike and RTFKT cooperation is not a novel phenomenon. The pair previously released the RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers and the CryptoKicks sneakers in 2022, all of which necessitated the purchase of an NFT.
Known for its significant Clone X NFT profile picture (PFP) collection, RTFKT is a prominent and valuable player in the NFT market, contributing to the appeal of this unique sneaker collaboration. This Nike x RTFKT Dunk Genesis offering signifies a significant step into the future of footwear.
