30 US Senators Remain in Opposition

Data from US-based crypto exchange Coinbase’s non-profit (NP) crypto advocacy group, “Stand With Crypto,” say at least 18 US senators support cryptocurrencies. Stand with Crypto champions for “clear, common-sense regulations for the crypto industry” to mobilize “the 52 million crypto owners in the US – a demographic that is younger (60% Gen-Z and Millennials) and more diverse (41% identify as racial minorities) than the general US population – to unlock crypto’s innovation potential and foster greater economic freedom.”

According to Stand With Crypto’s data, 18 senators “stand with crypto,” a total of 30 senators remain in opposition. Republican Senators Cynthia Lummis and Ted Budd are the most pro-crypto politicians in the country. Lummis and Burr both introduced eight crypto bills, while Lummis made 184 public statements on crypto, and Budd made 24 statements. Senator Lummis supports the industry and desperately seeks to foster it by introducing regulatory frameworks that allow the crypto sector to grow within the US. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D) joined Sen. Lummis to introduce the “Responsible Financial Innovation Act”, which aims to grant the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) control over digital commodities.

Of the 18 senators that “stand with crypto,” 14 are Republican, while only four (4) are Democrats. Following closely behind Lummis and Budd are fellow Republican Ted Crus and Bill Hagerty.

Democrats Lead to Anti-Crypto Crusade

Of the 30 senators opposed to crypto, 23 are Democrats, five (5) Republicans, and two (2) are Independents. Notable anti-crypto politicians include President Joe Biden (D) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D). Senator Warren is one of the most prominent anti-crypto vocalists with constant bombardment and critique of the industry. Warren’s most recent statements regarding crypto were a criticism of the SEC’s decision to approve 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs. Other prominent anti-crypto politicians include Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who has joined Sen. Warren in co-sponsoring her “Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act.”

According to the NP’s data, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr also support crypto.
