The popularity of digital art around the world has meant that many more art students are experimenting with virtual mediums. Now, the public can get a glimpse of what has been in development by the DIGITAL ART/Ruth Schnell class at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna thanks to an upcoming exhibition in the Voxels Metaverse. This exhibition is dubbed ‘The Voxel Dilemma’ and will be held from February 3 to March 1, 2023.

In the announcement of the event, it was explained that the works began with the idea of an empty canvas and all the potential that comes with it.

“An empty canvas is both an invitation and a challenge – whether in analog form or as an empty digital space that needs to be filled with voxels – the three-dimensional version of the pixel,” it said.

As part of Markus Reindl’s final year art course in virtual space, students transformed a blank canvas into a diverse collection of pieces exploring themes of identity and virtual worlds. The works, featuring pieces by artists like Anastasia Voloshina, Marcin Ratajczyk, Mariia Tikhomirova, and more, will be showcased in Voxels for all to view.
